FOREST & WATER NATURE GUIDES ARE SPECIALISTS WHEN IT COMES TO OUTDOOR SPORTS

What is Backcountry?

Backcountry skiing and snowboarding is about as far removed from groomed and manicured ski runs as you can get. With a team of trained professionals you search out the softest, most powdery, undisturbed snow possible, and fly down the mountain like you’re riding a cloud.

In contrast to regular skiing and snowboarding, backcountry does come with some risk. It is our guide’s job to assess the snow, the terrain, and to make an educated decision about whether it is safe or not. After the decision has been made, you’re in for the ride of your life!

Backcountry Tours

Forest and Water offers a variety of tours that vary in length and difficulty. These include three difficulty levels, and a Beginner's Tour. Depending on your needs we can design a tour especially suited to your needs.

Please contact us for further information.

Basic Tour

Everyone, from those who have never been backcountry skiing before, to experienced professionals, can enjoy the Basic Tour. Even if you take the same course every time, natural variations in snow and terrain make every experience unique. Additionally, the number of courses available means that no matter how times you come, it will always be a slightly different, and amazing experience.

Advanced Tour

Backcountry Tour

The Advanced Tour is a step up in difficulty from the Basic Tour. The time it takes to hike up, the distance you ride, and the elevation all increase. More so than the Basic Tour, we require that you be in very good health, be confident on your skis or snowboard, and have backcountry experience.

Expert Tour

This tour is for experienced riders only. Being confident on your board and able to make the considerably longer hike is not enough. You should also be able to read the terrain and snow on your own, and have the ability to see your line before you make it. You also need to be able to cope with the higher elevations required at this level.

Beginner's Tour

This is a tour for people who really want to try backcountry, but might be worried about whether or not they are able to. The course is roughly the same as the Basic Tour, but the guides put more emphasis on making sure that people new to backcountry have a safe and fun time.
