FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What kind of gear should I bring?

Basically, the same kind of gear that you would usually take on groomed runs is also okay for backcountry; the tools necessary to adjust your skis, snowboard, or telemarks, boots, bindings, and snow gear. Concerning your middle and inner layers, please try to avoid cotton clothing. Cotton absorbs sweat easily and takes a long time to get dry again. If your inner layer gets wet it lowers your body temperature, which as well as being uncomfortable can be very dangerous in a survival situation. Please wear chemical fiber or wool undergarments. This is the same for your middle layer. I think that wearing something like a sweater or fleece coat would be fine. Eye protection is also a must. On sunny days, the reflection from the snow can be damaging to your eyes, and on snowy days you might find it hard to keep your eyes open without goggles. Please bring what you would normally take on the slopes! Also, it is very convenient to carry suntan lotion. You get burned much easier than you would normally think in the snow. If you wish to climb with skis, please don’t forget to bring skins for traction. We rent many kinds of equipment, so if you’re interested, please check and see what’s available!
